The Temporary Visitor visa status is for persons who stay in Japan for a short period for activities such as sightseeing, recreation, sports, visiting relatives, inspection, attending lectures or meetings, business meetings, and similar activities.

Important Notes

  • Applications for Certificate of Eligibility for Temporary Visitor status are not accepted.
  • Extension of period of stay for Temporary Visitor is generally not permitted.
  • However, extension may be permitted in cases with humanitarian reasons or other special circumstances.

Application for Extension of Period of Stay

Extension of period of stay for Temporary Visitor is generally not permitted, but applications may be made in cases with special circumstances such as the following.

Cases Where Extension May Be Permitted

  • Humanitarian reasons (medical treatment, critically ill family member, etc.)
  • Inability to leave due to natural disasters, infectious diseases, etc.
  • Unavoidable circumstances such as litigation or accident processing
  • Other special circumstances

Application for Change of Status of Residence
