Temporary Visitor - Required Documents
The Temporary Visitor status of residence is for persons who stay in Japan for a short period to engage in activities such as sightseeing, recreation, sports, visiting relatives, inspection, attending lectures or meetings, business contacts, and other similar activities.

Required Documents by Application Type
Applications for Certificate of Eligibility for the Temporary Visitor status of residence are not accepted.
Important Notes Before Applying

- If the application is submitted with incomplete documents, the examination may be significantly delayed or the application may be denied.
- All certificates issued in Japan must be submitted within 3 months from the date of issue.
- Documents written in foreign languages must be accompanied by a Japanese translation.
- Submitted documents will not be returned in principle. If you wish to have them returned, please inform the counter at the time of application.
- Additional documents may be requested during the examination process.
Change of Status of Residence Application
This application is for persons who are already residing in Japan under a different status of residence and wish to change to the Temporary Visitor status. If you are no longer engaged in the activities corresponding to your current status of residence, please apply promptly. Your status of residence may be revoked if you are not engaged in activities based on your original status of residence.
1. Application for Change of Status of Residence - 1 copy
2. Passport and Residence Card - For presentation
3. Statement of reasons for changing to “Temporary Visitor” - 1 copy

4. Documents proving that the means of transportation for departure have been secured
Airline tickets, etc. For presentation.
If someone other than the applicant submits the application documents, the person submitting must present documents proving their identity (agent certificate, family register, etc.).
Extension of Period of Stay Application
Extension of the period of stay for the Temporary Visitor status is permitted only in cases where there are genuinely unavoidable humanitarian circumstances or equivalent special circumstances. For example, this may apply when hospital treatment is required.
1. Application for Extension of Period of Stay - 1 copy
2. Passport - For presentation
3. Documents proving the reason for continuing the temporary stay activities - 1 copy
Example: If applying due to hospital treatment, submit a medical certificate.
4. Documents explaining activities from the time of entry into Japan to the present - 1 copy
Free format. Must be described in detail.
5. Documents proving the ability to pay expenses during the stay and documents proving the means of departure or the ability to pay for it - 1 copy
Examples: Bank balance certificate, return airline ticket, etc.
